Okay, I know what you're thinking, how in the world could someones self esteem rise just by wearing something different. I was extremely selective about what type of camisole top or camisole lingerie I was going to put under one of my blazers in place of my typical blouse.

With her braces and glasses gone, she even succeeded in landing work as a model, and even appeared in the video for Meat Loaf’s Rock’n’Roll Dreams Come Through. She also appeared in promo videos for Lenny Kravitz and the Rolling Stones.

Jolie’s brother James (who now called himself James Haven) had pursued his ambition of going to film school, and Angelina gained her first taste of screen acting by starring in no less than five of her brother’s student films. She made her movie debut proper in 1993, when she was offered a starring role as Casella “Cash” Reese, acting alongside Jack Palance in Cyborg 2. Angelina’s role capitalised on her screen charisma and brash, upfront sex appeal, and before long she was offered another plum role in Hackers, a sci-fi computer thriller. Whilst on set shooting Hackers, she met British actor Johnny Lee Miller, of Trainspotting fame, who played a computer wizard on the run from the police. Jolie and Miller worked closely together (she played a member of his team) and before long, the couple were announcing their engagement in the press.

The Hollywood gossip columnists ventured the opinion that Jolie’s marriage was all part of her quest to find some stability in her life, since she’d lacked a father figure whilst she was growing up. But she and Miller were an outlandish and unconventional couple, and Jolie wasted no time in telling the press all about their exploits - in bed and out of it! Her professional life began to blossom, and the offers to star in new films started flooding in. Jolie co-starred with David Duchovny of X-Files fame in the glitzy thriller, Playing God; this film also starred Timothy Hutton, whom she also dated some time later.

Then came a road movie called Mojave Moon, where she played a young girl called Eleanor Rigby, who falls in love with Danny Aiello - who happens to be in love with Eleanor’s mother (played by Anne Archer). Next came Foxfire, where she played a teenage girl who belonged to a gang who set out to kill a teacher who is bothering them at high school. By now, the major producers in Hollywood had begun to notice that Jolie was able to bring an impressive palette of emotions to her acting, and she began to be offered more complex and demanding parts.

In 1997, she played the role of George Wallace’s wife , in the biographical movie, George Wallace, which told the story of the segregationist Governor of Alabama who was shot and paralysed during his campaign to become President, a performance which achieved considerable critical acclaim. But whilst her career was going from strength to strength, her private life was starting to fall apart. Johnny Lee Miller was finding her emotional excesses harder and harder to deal with, especially whilst she was playing the lead role in Gia, a biopic about the life of Gia Carangi, a lesbian supermodel from the 1970s, who eventually died of AIDS. Jolie was awarded a Golden Globe for her performance in this movie - and to celebrate, she jumped into a swimming-pool whilst fully clothed, ruining her expensive designer ball gown. Eventually, Miller decided he couldn’t take any more, and the couple finally split.

In the wake of her marriage bust-up, rumours were flying about Jolie’s sexuality, and she fanned the flames by openly admitting that she was bisexual. She even confessed to having a relationship with the actress Jenny Shimizu. None of this distracted her from her work, however, and she was soon starring in a comedy drama about air traffic controllers, called Pushing Tin. Her co-stars were John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and by the time the film wrapped shooting, she was already in love with Thornton, who was 15 years older than her. Once again, Jolie enjoyed an outrageous, high-profile romance, with Thornton openly admitting that he liked to wear Jolie’s underwear, because it made him feel closer to her!

Just as she found happiness in her private life, Jolie also struck gold in her career. She accepted the role of a mental asylum inmate in “Girl, Interrupted”, co-starring with Winona Ryder, and won an Oscar for her stellar performance. The Oscar ceremony was marred by rumours that she’d had an incestuous relationship with her own brother - which Jolie denied. She went on to tell the press that she’d only ever slept with a handful of people.

Next came Jolie’s first blockbuster role - Tomb Raider. This was probably her most challenging role to date, for she not only had to learn how to speak with an English, upper-class accent, but also had to master a wide range of physically demanding disciplines, including kick-boxing, street fighting, yoga, ballet, car-racing and dog-sledding. Her character Lara Croft was faced with the challenge of defeating the illuminati who were trying to use a magic triangle in order to control Time - and interestingly, the role of her English upper-class father was played by her real-life father, Jon Voight. Lara Croft marked Jolie’s real breakthrough as a big Hollywood name in her own right - even though she failed to win an Oscar on this occasion.

Having reached a peak in her career, Jolie then decided to pursue her humanitarian interests and began to become more and more involved in campaigns to help people in the Third World. In 2001, she adopted a Cambodian child named Maddox, and was made a Good Will Ambassador for the United States. She took her role very seriously indeed, and took time out from her acting career to visit Sierra Leone, Pakistan, Tanzania and the Western Sahara.

She began campaigning for peace in troubled Sri Lanka, got involved in helping refugees from Chechnia and Thailand, and donated $5 million to an environmental wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia. When she turned her attention back to her career, she was offered the chance to make Tomb Raider 2, for which she was paid a staggering $12 million.

Although she was flying high in her work, her private life was in trouble again, and Billy Bob Thornton left her in May 2002. She subsequently claimed he was far more interested in his career than he was in her and Maddox, whilst she was more keen to balance family life and her philanthropic interests with striving for box-office success. After filming Tomb Raider 2, Jolie bought herself a house in Buckinghamshire, and was occasionally be seen out on the town with her ex-husband Johnny Lee Miller.

She continued to give a considerable amount of time to the United Nations, as well as working hard at her career. After the highly successful Tomb Raider sequel, she accepted a part in Beyond Borders. Here she played the daughter of a wealthy businessman who meets a visionary doctor and travels with him to war-ravaged Africa to help save lives - it sounded very much like a case of Jolie’s art imitating her own life. Somehow, she even found the time to write a book, called Notes from My Travels, which was published in 2003.

In 2004, she starred in Taking Lives, where she played an intuitive detective, and co-starred with Ethan Hawke. Hawke’s marriage to Uma Thurman collapsed around the same time, and Jolie was blamed - but she denied the rumours, and was later proved right.

Jolie then took a voiceover role of a glamorous fish called Lola in Shark Tale, rapidly followed by the futuristic period piece, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, where she played a sexy pilot captain. By coincidence, Jolie had recently gained her pilot’s license, although on this occasion, she didn’t fly the plane for real, but acted mostly against empty screens.

Sadly, Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow wasn’t a great box office hit - and nor was Alexander, Jolie’s next film. Here she played Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great, who inspires him to become a great leader and empire builder. But the offers kept coming for Jolie to star in new pictures. After starring in The Fever, a political piece directed by Vanessa Redgrave’s son, Carlo Nero, she was offered the starring role in Mr and Mrs Smith, where she was cast opposite Brad Pitt.

They played a bored couple whose lacklustre marriage gets a shot in the arm when they discover that they are both secret assassins who have been hired to kill each other. Improbable though the plot sounded, the film was a massive hit - not least perhaps because romance had once again blossomed for Jolie during the shooting of the movie, and Brad Pitt’s marriage to Jennifer Aniston broke up around the same time.

Although rumours ran rife, Jolie and Pitt remained silent about their alleged affair, and did not go public about their involvement until a full twelve months later. By this time, Brad Pitt was fully embroiled in the full horror of a high-profile Hollywood divorce. Jolie denied Aniston’s claims that she was a marriage-wrecker, and told reporters “I was just a shoulder to cry on”.

Also during 2005, Jolie found time to get involved in Live8 and also visited post-earthquake Pakistan. She also adopted Zaharah Marley, a little Ethiopian girl as a sister for Maddox, and to her delight, Brad Pitt decided to adopt both children as his own. And in May 2006, Angelina also gave birth to her own child by Brad Pitt, Shiloh Nouvel, who was born in Namibia whilst the couple were over in Africa.

With Brad Pitt, Jolie has finally found a partner with whom she can share her humanitarian goals and ideals, as well as her dazzling Hollywood success. Whilst it’s certain that the twin challenges of her motherhood and her charity work will continue to take up much of Jolie’s time, the movie offers just keep coming. 2006 has seen the premiere of The Good Shepherd, directed by Robert de Niro, which tells the story of the history of the CIA through the eyes of a key operative (played by Matt Damon). But Jolie herself confesses: “It’s getting harder and harder to go back to work after time with children and my United Nations projects.”

In 2007, Jolie made her directorial debut with the documentary A Place in Time, which captures the life in 27 locations around the globe during a single week and features fellow actors such as Jude Law, Hilary Swank, Colin Farrell and Jonny Lee Miller. She also voiced the of part Grendel's mother in the animated adaptation of Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf, directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Jolie's baby bump was the buzz on the blue carpet Saturday as she stepped out in a curve-hugging black dress at the Film Independent's Spirit Awards with Pitt.

The Jolie-Pitt family currently consists of Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 1. Last week the couple's adoption of Pax was made official.

During a short interlude, the Daily Show star teased about all the expectant actresses in attendance – referencing Jessica Alba and Cate Blanchett – and then announced (as if he were presenting an award), "the baby goes to ... Next to Liv Tyler, Angelina Jolie is the only actress of her generation who can thank her famous father for the lips that have become her trademark. The actress was born Angelina Jolie Voight to the pillow-lipped Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles.

Raised mostly by her mother after her parents divorced while she was still a baby, Jolie moved around a lot with her mother and brother. She also did a fair amount of traveling as a professional model, living in such places as London, New York, and Los Angeles before settling for a time in New York as a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and New York University, where she first started acting in theater productions. The fledgling actress soon moved on to film with a small role in 1993's Cyborg 2, followed in 1995 by her turn as a computer hacker in the more widely seen Hackers. The film gave her her first taste of recognition, as well as an introduction to Trainspotting's Jonny Lee Miller, to whom she was married for a short time.

The request is familiar to American ears: "Bring them home."

But in Iraq, where I've just met with American and Iraqi leaders, the phrase carries a different meaning. It does not refer to the departure of U.S. troops, but to the return of the millions of innocent Iraqis who have been driven out of their homes and, in many cases, out of the country.

In the six months since my previous visit to Iraq with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, this humanitarian crisis has not improved. However, during the last week, the United States, UNHCR and the Iraqi government have begun to work together in new and important ways.

We still don't know exactly how many Iraqis have fled their homes, where they've all gone, or how they're managing to survive. Here is what we do know: More than 2 million people are refugees inside their own country -- without homes, jobs and, to a terrible degree, without medicine, food or clean water. Ethnic cleansing and other acts of unspeakable violence have driven them into a vast and very dangerous no-man's land. Many of the survivors huddle in mosques, in abandoned buildings with no electricity, in tents or in one-room huts made of straw and mud. Fifty-eight percent of these internally displaced people are younger than 12 years old.

An additional 2.5 million Iraqis have sought refuge outside Iraq, mainly in Syria and Jordan. But those host countries have reached their limits. Overwhelmed by the refugees they already have, these countries have essentially closed their borders until the international community provides support.

I'm not a security expert, but it doesn't take one to see that Syria and Jordan are carrying an unsustainable burden. They have been excellent hosts, but we can't expect them to care for millions of poor Iraqis indefinitely and without assistance from the U.S. or others. One-sixth of Jordan's population today is Iraqi refugees. The large burden is already causing tension internally.

The Iraqi families I've met on my trips to the region are proud and resilient. They don't want anything from us other than the chance to return to their homes -- or, where those homes have been bombed to the ground or occupied by squatters, to build new ones and get back to their lives. One thing is certain: It will be quite a while before Iraq is ready to absorb more than 4 million refugees and displaced people. But it is not too early to start working on solutions. And last week, there were signs of progress.

In Baghdad, I spoke with Army Gen. David Petraeus about UNHCR's need for security information and protection for its staff as they re-enter Iraq, and I am pleased that he has offered that support. General Petraeus also told me he would support new efforts to address the humanitarian crisis "to the maximum extent possible" -- which leaves me hopeful that more progress can be made.

UNHCR is certainly committed to that. Last week while in Iraq, High Commissioner António Guterres pledged to increase UNHCR's presence there and to work closely with the Iraqi government, both in assessing the conditions required for return and in providing humanitarian relief.

During my trip I also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who has announced the creation of a new committee to oversee issues related to internally displaced people, and a pledge of $40 million to support the effort.

My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.

Today's humanitarian crisis in Iraq -- and the potential consequences for our national security -- are great. Can the United States afford to gamble that 4 million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of Middle East, won't explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder?

What we cannot afford, in my view, is to squander the progress that has been made. In fact, we should step up our financial and material assistance. UNHCR has appealed for $261 million this year to provide for refugees and internally displaced persons. That is not a small amount of money -- but it is less than the U.S. spends each day to fight the war in Iraq. I would like to call on each of the presidential candidates and congressional leaders to announce a comprehensive refugee plan with a specific timeline and budget as part of their Iraq strategy.

As for the question of whether the surge is working, I can only state what I witnessed: U.N. staff and those of non-governmental organizations seem to feel they have the right set of circumstances to attempt to scale up their programs. And when I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq. They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible.

It seems to me that now is the moment to address the humanitarian side of this situation. Without the right support, we could miss an opportunity to do some of the good we always stated we intended to do.

An actress who was relegated to playing decorative parts for years and was known primarily for her real-life role as the wife of Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman spent the latter half of the 1990s finally earning the critical respect she deserved. Standing a willowy 5'11'' and sporting one of Hollywood's most distinctive heads of red hair, the Australian actress first came to the attention of a wide American audience with her role opposite Cruise in Days of Thunder (1990), but it was not until she starred as a homicidal weather girl in Gus Van Sant's 1995 To Die For that she began to be regarded as a performer of considerable range and talent. Although many assume that Kidman is a native of Australia, she was actually born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 20, 1967. Her family, who lived on the island because of a research project Kidman's father, a biochemist, was involved with, subsequently moved to Washington, D.C. for the next three years. After her father's project reached completion, Kidman and her family -- which also included her mother, a nurse/educator, and a younger sister -- moved to her parents' native Australia. Raised in the upper-middle-class Sydney suburb of Longueville, she grew up with a love of the arts, particularly dance and theatre. Trained in ballet from the age of three, Kidman made her acting debut in a nativity play when she was six. By the age of ten, she was studying acting in drama school, and she went on to train at the St. Martin's Youth Theatre in Melbourne and at Sydney's Phillip Street Theatre. An awkward, gawky teenager who was teased relentlessly because of her height, Kidman took refuge in the theatre, and she landed her first professional role at the age of 14, when she starred in Bush Christmas (1983), a TV movie about a group of kids who band together with an Aborigine to find their stolen horse. This was followed by a role in another adventure film, BMX Bandits (1983), and a number of TV movies. Kidman's first breakthrough came when she was asked to star in Vietnam, a miniseries directed by John Duigan; the actress won positive notices for her portrayal of an awkward 1960s schoolgirl who matures into an idealistic 24-year-old Vietnam war protester. She also won an American agent, something that opened quite a few doors of opportunity. In 1989, Kidman got another major break when she was tapped to star in Phillip Noyce's Dead Calm. A psychological thriller about a couple (Kidman and Sam Neill) who are terrorized by a young man they rescue from a sinking ship (Billy Zane), the film helped to establish the then-19-year-old Kidman as an actress of considerable mettle. That same year her reputation was further boosted by her starring performance in the made-for-TV Bangkok Hilton, which cast her as a young woman incarcerated in a Thai prison on false drug smuggling charges. By now a rising star in Australia, Kidman began earning recognition across the Pacific. In 1989, she was picked by Tom Cruise for a starring role in her first American feature, Tony Scott's Days of Thunder (1990). The film, a testosterone-saturated drama about a racecar driver (Cruise), cast Kidman as the neurologist who falls in love with him. A sizable hit, it had the added advantage of introducing Kidman to Cruise, whom she married in December of 1990. Following a role as Dustin Hoffman's moll in Billy Bathgate (1991), and a supporting turn as a snotty boarding school senior in Flirting (also 1991), John Duigan's wonderful and criminally little-seen coming-of-age drama, Kidman collaborated with Cruise on their second film together, Far and Away (1992). Despite their onscreen pairing and some gorgeous cinematography, the film got only a lukewarm reception, and Kidman's subsequent projects, My Life and Malice ( both 1993), were similarly disappointing. Batman Forever (1995), in which she played the hero's love interest, fared somewhat better, but it did little in the way of establishing Kidman as a serious actress.

A photographer accused of planting a listening device outside the Sydney home of Nicole Kidman has had all charges against him dropped.
Police discovered the device in 2005 and suspected Jamie Fawcett of trying to listen in on conversations between Kidman’s security guards.

Mr Fawcett said he felt that as a paparazzi photographer he had been unfairly targeted.

He had once been subject to a restraining order brought by Kidman.

Speaking outside court on Thursday, Mr. Fawcett said: “It was a very narrow investigation that once again targeted the photographers at a scene and I felt that was perhaps unfair.”

He added: “I am often asked about the feud between Miss Kidman and myself. In fact, I don’t have any opinion whatsoever about Miss Kidman, other than to wish her all the best.”

The New South Wales state Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) gave no reasons in court for withdrawing the charges.

Kidman’s Australian agent, Wendy Day, said the actress had no comment to make on the case because she had not been involved with it.

“It has nothing to do with Nicole,” she said.

“That was something to do between the DPP and Jamie Fawcett.”

In 2005, Kidman won a temporary restraining order against Mr Fawcett and another paparazzi photographer, Ben McDonald, who she said made her feel like a prisoner in her own home.

The parties eventually came to an out-of-court agreement that the photographers would stay 500 meters away from her property, but could take pictures of her elsewhere.

Nicole Kidman has a jump start on the upcoming awards season.

The Oscar-winner and star of the new dramas "The Human Stain," "Cold Mountain" and "Dogville" collected the 18th annual American Cinematheque award Friday night for career achievement.

Acting "was what I wanted to do since I was a very strange little girl in Sydney, Australia," Kidman told a star-studded gathering at the Beverly Hilton Hotel that included actors James Caan, Adrien Brody, Lauren Bacall and Kidman's childhood friend Naomi Watts.

"I even had my first kiss on stage," she added.

The 36-year-old actress, who won an Oscar last year for playing novelist Virginia Woolf in "The Hours," may seem a little young to receive a career achievement honor, but previous winners were also on the youthful side.

Eddie Murphy was the first winner -- in 1986, when he was just 25. Other recipients include directors Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, and actors Mel Gibson, Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger, and last year's honoree, Denzel Washington.

Friday night's program, taped for broadcast December 1 on the AMC cable channel, featured clips of Kidman's various films, including two sexually charged clips with ex-husband Tom Cruise in the films "Far and Away" and "Eyes Wide Shut."

Cruise did not attend the ceremony. Kidman's current boyfriend, singer Lenny Kravitz, was also not in evidence.

When I compare this to my other retailers' furniture that I have purchased (and assembled) in the past I would consider that top quality compared to this.
First, the chest handles are not as shown on the website. Secondly, there are not metal drawer slides (they are made of plastic) as described on the website. Thirdly, the drawer bottoms and chest backing are made of flimsy cardboard. I feel that I had reasonable expectations for this chest but, after tax and shipping ? this is no bargain for what I got.

I love this chest I have the whole black chest line. The dresser and night stands. They are perfect for cheap furniture. Everyone on this site writes bad reviews and I think that they are wrong. I would definitly recommend this furniture. People need to be more resonable. 5 stars

This was perfect for washing my traditionally "handwash only" items. My bras kept their shape and suffered no damage. I did NOT machine dry them, of course-I washed them in this bag, alone, on the GENTLE cycle, in COLD water. I then laid them out to dry so they kept their shape. This bag protected them perfectly, and didn't twist them or ruin their shape. Be careful-bra clasps will snag on mesh if you try to pull bras out without making sure they're not hooked first. The mesh is strong, but you don't want to lose a bra clasp.

Let me begin by saying this book is absolutely beautiful. This is not your typical naughty knitting book. The designs are inspired by lingerie and although there is some actualy lingerie in the book, mostly it's full of beautiful knitted items that you would never want to wear under clothes. The photography is gorgeous, the instructions are clear, the designs are beautiful. This book is especially great for warm weather knitting. I am a fan of Joan McGowen-Michael because not only does she design sexy knits but she includes instructions for women who have some meat on their bones. When I heard she was doing a book I was very excited and the book has mostly held up to my expectation. That being said I have a bone to pick with Joan and several other authors.

I opened the book and fell in love with the first sweater I saw. When I finished paging through the book, I had my first three projects, the "Lacy Summer Socks" and two camisoles-Surplice Bodice Camisole and Silk and Pearl Cami. I was excited. I was ready to buy yarn and cast on.

I went to my computer to look for the yarn. First project the socks - yarn is easy to find,not too pricy- ordered, no problem. Second project - "Surplice Bodice Camisole" - yarn a bit pricy, only 10 colors - checked the type, gauge and went looking for a substitution. Once again no problem. Went looking for the yarn for the third project - "Silk and Pearl Cami" which by the way was my favorite. It's a great basic camisole. Problems - note the "s". First, the yarn recommended was Classic Elite Temptation. The yarn has been discontinued. Now I know there is often a huge span of time between when the pattern is written and when the book was completed but shouldn't someone have checked the yarns before the book went to press. Second, what's still around is going for around $45.00. That's a little pricy for a cute little camisole. But three is the biggest flub - the yarn gauge is the pattern is given as 4 stitches per inch on size 9 needles and the yarn gauge on the yarn is 3 1/4 stitches per inch on size 9 needles. Temptation isn't an easy yarn to substitute. What as I suppose to base my yarn substitution on? The gauge in the book or the gauge on the yarn. In fact if I hunt down the yarn and pay a king's ransom for it, will I get gauge the right gauge? Probably not according to the manufacturer! (I sorry I sound angry. I'm not angry, just a little annoyed.) My current solution is to go with the gauge in the pattern and see what's available for yarn.

It is time for knitwear designers to wake up and realize knitting is a creative activity and part of being creative to selecting the yarn. Many knitters do not just buy the designer's choice. We're not sheep, we're knitters. The yarn mentioned is only a recommendation and fiber content, weight and gauge should be double checked in every publication because that's what many knitter's look at first.

Okay I'm off my soap box. I do recommend the book, but I've only looked closely at the three patterns I mentioned so you may want to double check the gauge on the pattern and the yarn before you make a purchase. Make sure you do a swatch before you begin the project to double check. Happy Knitting.

I wasn't aware of this author's credentials until I started looking at the book. I had ordered it for the bra but since it requires underwire which I won't wear and also calls for yarn I can't find plus all sorts of other sewing materials, I will pass on the bra. However, there are several other patterns I just might try. Citrus sun top is also a kind of bra and there I don't have a problem finding the materials. Several of the patterns call for materials that must be ordered from the author. The plus side is that otherwise they probably wouldn't be available at all. As a knitter, I really don't enjoy lots of sewing and several patterns do involve a lot of work. The trumpet skirt uses a yarn I own although I don't wear skirts! It's a very nice one though. When her patterns call for the ribbing stitch, she tells you exactly how much stretch it should have which is another plus. The shaped lace tee is an easy lace top which is lovely. The racerback tank (instead of a bra) could also be something to knit for me. Her long stockings and leggings are very good but I don't make socks anymore. However, her bedjacket is also interesting. I learned a lot from reading her information on the history of these garments so even while I may never knit anything from the book, I'm glad to have it on my shelf. Also her sizes cover a very wide range and the charts are very helpful. This book is undoubtedly the best book on this subject I have seen.

Joan McGowan-Michael came of age in the seventies, an era when underthings were basic and functional--but she was always drawn to the intriguing lingerie of her mother and grandmother. After finishing design school, she went to work as a designer for a major lingerie retailer, just in time for the resurgence of feminine lingerie.

Lingerie is no longer relegated to the role of shaping women's bodies and keeping us warm. It has taken centre stage, inspiring designs and become outwear. In 2001, McGowan-Michael founded White Lies Designs and has since been designing knitted lingerie and lingerie-inspired designs for all the major knitting publications.

In Knitting Lingerie Style, McGowan-Michael examines the five staple undergarments of a woman's wardrobe--the bra, slip, corset, camisole and stocking--and reviews the construction and history of each. She then provides a pattern for the basic garment, followed by designs which use the basic garment as a "jumping off" point. The bra inspires the twinset, the slip a party dress and the camisole is reincarnated as a lacy bodice.

The patterns found in Knitting Lingerie Style invite knitters to become adventurous. Overall, these patterns require knitting experience and, because most are quite fitted, require an honest assessment of one's body. Sizing for her garments ranges from finished chest measurements of 28" to 57" with the majority falling in the 31" to 46" range, with very minimal ease.

McGowan-Michael guides knitters step-by-step through the process of creating a knitted bra or corset and provides helpful illustrations. Her background in lingerie design is very evident in the construction of her garment designs and in the fashioning details she includes, such as including interfacing in her bra and offering alternate cup construction in the Citrus Sun Top, since a bra can't be worn under it. Even if knitters never knit the lingerie in Knitting Lingerie Style, McGowan-Michael's useful information will help them look at lingerie in a new way, leaving them with a better understanding of fit and styles which are figure-flattering for women.

It's pretty cheap -- the fishnet thong tore when I put it on (and I'm not a fatty!!)

It's also REALLY confusing if you try to put it on while you're drunk, and even a little difficult to figure out when sober. Set aside some time to put this on if you want it to look good.
